A Nicholson Drive man received death threats from a neighbor. Eight hours later, someone allegedly poured an accelerant on the front seat of the man's car and lit it on fire. The culprit also left a cryptic note. Flathead County Sheriff's deputies are investigating the suspected arson.

Montana Highway Patrol

Montana Highway Patrol was called to several crashes in a row shortly after snow started falling Sunday evening. A five-vehicle crash was reported on Tamarack Lane, where four apparently eventually drove away but the fifth landed in a ditch and the driver could not be located. On U.S. 2 just south of Hagerman Lane a woman apparently was injured. Two vehicles crash on U.S. 2 West, and Marion ambulance, Smith Valley fire and Kalispell fire were paged. No further details were available immediately.

Columbia Falls police issued a warrant for a 29-year-old man, alleging partner or family member assault after he fled the scene of a Dec. 19 incident. Butte police arrested the man Sunday. He is being brought back to Columbia Falls to face charges.

A Whitefish police officer on patrol early Sunday spotted a man lying on the ground beside the railroad tracks. He reportedly was intoxicated and had managed to crawl across the tracks before lying down. He got a ride to the city jail, where he stayed until he could sober up and make his way home.

Flathead County sheriff's deputies went to North Hilltop Road on Sunday night for a disturbance between a husband and wife. The man left in his truck, but later was tracked down by Kalispell police in west Kalispell. Police said he threatened to end it all, so he went to Kalispell Regional Medical Center for a mental-health evaluation. Both were taken into custody, ticketed on suspicion of partner or family member assault.

Three Rivers EMS, Columbia Falls fire and the Montana Highway Patrol were called to a traffic crash on Montana 40 on Sunday afternoon. A Ford Escort was towed away and an ambulance went to North Valley Hospital, but there was no information available on the number of vehicles or injuries involved.

Flathead County Sheriff's deputies responded to a ranch on U.S. 93 near Olney to investigate several 911 hang ups. An ambulance was requested during at least one of the abbreviated calls. Upon arrival, deputies found the door kicked in and a 36-year-old man, who had been drinking, passed out in an office chair. The barely coherent man told deputies he entered the building after hearing voices inside. He was arrested and charged with trespassing and criminal mischief.

The Flathead County Alcohol Enforcement Team arrested 20 minors for possession of alcohol over the weekend. On Friday, three youths were arrested at an event at Majestic Valley Arena. On Saturday, 16 youths were cited and released to a responsible adult after officers responded to a house party on Vonderheide Lane. One of the kids was also charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana. On Sunday, a 20-year-old woman was arrested on First Avenue West in Kalispell. The 21-year-old man who provided the woman with the alcohol was also cited.

The man claimed he was trying to keep the woman in the truck, even going so far as to hold her in the jacket, and that she pulled away anyway and must have hit her head in the fall. No one was arrested.
