She was a passenger in an automobile accident between St. Regis and Plains that was caused by a deer lying on the road. Melissa was greatly loved by many who knew her and will be forever missed.

Whitefish police went to a fight in the VFW parking lot Monday night, but the man and woman quit fighting and left for home peacefully. Less than an hour later, however, the officer spotted the same truck being driven erratically near JP Road. The 43-year-old woman said she was going out for cigarettes. Someone attempted to gain entry to a house, but failed.

She lived in Powell until the family moved to The Dalles, Ore., when she was 12. Two years later the family moved to Vancouver, Wash., and lived there until 1927, when the family moved to Brockway. Esther went to high school in Terry until the school in Brockway re-opened. She graduated from Brockway in 1931 as valedictorian in her class of seven.

He led the Montana Highway Patrol - backed up by Kalispell police - on a chase, headed down a private drive, then bailed out of the vehicle and ran into the water under the Conrad bridge Wednesday night. But the 45-year-old man was nabbed and arrested on suspicion of DUI, driving his vehicle beyond the high-water mark, driving with a suspended or revoked license, having no liability insurance and eluding a peace officer.

Columbia Falls police fielded dozens of calls about Sunday evening's power outage to most of the western half of town and surrounding countryside, after a power pole on U.S. 2 caught fire just east of Super 1 Foods. From about 5:50 to 8:50 p.m., firefighters were on the scene to close the highway, redirect traffic and provide backup for Flathead Electric workers. The power company continued working long after that time. Some homes had power restored within an hour or so. Others still had no power by 11 p.m. It reportedly affected Columbia Falls Aluminum Company on the northeast side of town.

Someone ended up with a heck of a hangover Sunday.
Shortly after 1 a.m., a drunken man banged on the car window on Leisure island, trying to get to another man inside. Flathead County Sheriff's Office deputies showed up and had to subdue the banging man by Tasering him. He fell into the river. A Kalispell Fire Department ambulance took him to Kalispell Regional Medical Center for possible hypothermia. Deputies ticketed the man and then released him.

A Kalispell police officer was checked for injured ribs after a foot chase early Thursday. He was checking on a motel's report of threatening phone calls and a suspicious driver when somebody suddenly bolted down an alley. The runner wouldn't come out of the bushes, so the officer went in after him and took a tumble. The 20-year-old man was charged with possessing dangerous drugs, possessing alcohol as a minor, resisting arrest and obstructing a peace officer.
