She grew up in Detroit, where she met her husband James D. Putman while he was in training with the United States Navy during World War II.

A man allegedly threw a woman on the ground and tried to hit her after a drug deal on East Reserve Drive in Evergreen went bad. He reportedly didn't want to pay her for a bag of marijuana. Flathead County Sheriff's deputies responded and ended up citing the man for drug possession.
