Flathead County Sheriff's deputies were looking for a van that had been reported stolen from Kalispell on Monday evening. They found it pulling into a bar on U.S. 2 and arrested the 43-year-old man driving it. He was charged with theft and probation violation. The man told police he was hitchhiking when someone drove up and offered to sell him the van for $300. And he did have a receipt. However, thinking there may be something more to the story, deputies are still investigating.

Kalispell Fire Department ambulances, Lakeside Quick Response Unit, Somers Fire Department, and Montana Highway Patrol responded to an accident Wednesday on U.S. 93 South near mile marker 108 just before 10 a.m. A car driven by a 79-year-old man with a 72-year-old passenger and a 76-year-old passenger was traveling southbound when it was rear-ended while trying to make a right turn into a body shop by an SUV driven by a 21-year-old woman. The three people in the car were transported to Kalispell Regional Medical Center for precautionary reasons. Neither alcohol or excessive speed were factors, according to the Montana Highway Patrol, which investigated the accident.

The chase Sunday afternoon went through the parking lot of the Northwest Montana Fairgrounds before going west on Husky Street. Pursuers lost sight of the fugitive before picking up a sighting several blocks to the north on Ashley Court. There, the posses caught the escaped sheep. Flathead County sheriff's deputies found themselves in the middle of a family drama when a woman and her sister tried to repossess a car from the sister's husband. The husband tried to move the car before they could get it, and the woman tried to prevent it from leaving. It's not clear whether the car hit the woman or the woman hit the car. She was taken to the hospital with a knee injury.

Deputies investigate stabbing
Flathead County sheriff's deputies were searching for a stabbing suspect in the heavily treed and brushy area east of the Shopko parking lot at 8 p.m. Saturday. A short time earlier, a man reportedly emerged from that same area and headed for the sidewalk in front of the store, where he flagged down a woman and asked her to call for help. Evergreen Fire and Rescue arrived and began caring for the man's apparent stab wound to the upper left side of his chest. The Kalispell ambulance then arrived and continued the care as they transported him to the hospital. Three deputies searched the area on foot, combing through the area that is used frequently by transients. At one campsite they found a shirt, which they took into evidence. Investigation continues.
