It will be easy for many Montanans to blame the implosion of the legislative session on the oh-so fiery, right-wing House Republican leadership. Kalispell
Kalispell police let a young man know that his brandishing of a fake pistol wasn't funny when they ticketed him Wednesday afternoon with disorderly conduct. Police said the boy was a passenger in a car that his friend had borrowed, when they dropped off another friend so she could take care of some business at City Hall. When they swung by to pick her up, the woman driving behind them saw him point a silver pistol at the girl through the passenger's window and appear to fire off two shots. The girl showed some level of surprise, then got into the vehicle. Fearing an abduction, the woman called police as she followed them. Officers eventually tracked them down, but the boy said that it was just a prank. Concerned that he showed no realization of how serious the situation was, they asked him to bring the pistol to the station. It was a realistic mock-up, nearly impossible to distinguish from a genuine firearm. Police confiscated the toy gun, and ticketed him - and served a warrant for earlier traffic offenses.

Flathead County
The Flathead County Sheriff's Office said a reported broken jaw and knife attack early Sunday was fabricated by a man who came home to find another man standing in his house. The resident said he'd punched the intruder because the burglar was stealing his wife's jewelry. Not so. Turned out the resident feared getting in trouble for attacking the intruder, so the resident stabbed himself and argued self defense. Now he faces a possible false-report charge, which can carry as long as a year in jail and a small fine. The Inter Lake's initial report that a woman was stabbed was incorrect.
