Alleged victim runs into attacker
Flathead County Sheriff's deputies got a call from an alleged assault victim, saying he happened upon the man who attacked him. Deputies were unable to find him before he got away. The victim was allegedly assaulted by the man, a friend of a friend, at a party he was hosting earlier this week on Spring Creek Drive.

Whitefish police arrested a 19-year-old boy for suspected theft after he took a paddle boat out on the river without permission. He was also charged with criminal mischief because there was some damage to the boat. The case is still under investigation.

Fred O. Brauer, 89, of Missoula, passed away June 25, 2007, of natural causes. Fred was born Aug. 23, 1917, in Butte. His father and mother homesteaded at Divide which is where he lived until the homestead burned down in the early 1920s, forcing the family to move back to Butte. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Bonner, where Fred attended Bonner School and then Missoula County High School, graduating in 1937.

Columbia Falls police arrested three men Sunday. Just before 2 a.m., a 39-year-old man was stopped on U.S. 2 and ticketed him in connection with felony DUI, a charge that kicks in with the fourth offense. At 12:30 p.m., they ticketed a 36-year-old man at First Avenue East and A Street on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia, and arrested him on a city warrant. And just after 5 p.m. on Seventh Street, they ticketed a 65-year-old man on suspicion of DUI.

First, Kalispell police went to a 4:06 a.m. call that a stranger knocked on the door at 157 Sherwood Lane, prompting neighborhood dog-barking. Then they went to a 4:09 a.m. call at 160 Sherwood Lane about somebody trying to enter through a back window. When the resident opened a door, he heard a man yell to a vehicle out front, then take off crashing through the bushes. The intruder left the back gate open.

A man was airlifted by ALERT to the Kalispell Regional Medical Center after a motorcycle crash on U.S. 2 and Lost Prairie Road near Marion. He slowed down and his partner ran into him, according to Marion Fire Department emergency crews. One of the motorcycles landed on top of him and pinned him between the bikes and the ground, they said. His injuries were still being assessed in the emergency room Tuesday evening, according to the hospital. The other rider walked away from the accident.

Lois was born Sept. 2, 1924, on the family homestead in Epping, N.D., the seventh of 10 children born to Evangeline (Kingston) and Rudolf A. Urban. She came to the Flathead Valley when she was 16 to live with her Aunt Hattie and Uncle Alva Ulrich in Somers. She graduated from Flathead County High School in 1942 with high honors.

Kathleen Nova Titland, 87, passed away May 22, 2007, at her home in Kalispell. She was born on Jan. 18, 1920, in Duran, N.M., the daughter of Daniel and Nova (Simpson) Kelly. She was raised in Tucumcari, N.M., and graduated from New Mexico State University with a degree in education.

Flathead County Sheriff's deputies received a call about an abandoned house on Three Mile Drive that smelled of a "dead body." Upon investigation it was determined a deceased feline was the source of the smell.

A woman reported that there were four severed dummy heads placed on the steps of a home on First Street West. The caller also told officers she was concerned about the two dogs that live in the house because she hadn't seen the Pomeranian in awhile.
