After more than two hours of exploration, 7-year-old Dominic Battello picks out his very own pumpkin to take home Wednesday afternoon at Sweet Pickin's Pumpkin Patch off Columbia Falls Stage Road, 1 1/2 miles north of Montana 35. Along with hundreds of pumpkins, the patch offers a variety of children's activities including mazes, bouncy balls, tractor rides, giant sandboxes and petting zoos with rabbits, goats, sheep, donkeys and chickens. Lennon Riley Lindberg, 'our little angel,' was born Oct. 12, 2003, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center, and passed away Sept. 19, 2008, at Sacred Heart Children's Hospital after receiving treatment for the tragic accident that left his beautiful brain deprived of oxygen on Sept. 9. He will be missed by many, for everyone that knew him was blessed.

Hugh Cline Shoemaker passed away, at 96 years old, on Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at Heritage Place, in Kalispell.
Hugh was born July 27, 1912, in Des Moines, Iowa. Curtis and Verna, his parents, came to Montana in 1919, settled down around Creston, where Hugh went to school at Mountain Brook. The family moved, around 1931, to an area south of Kalispell, an old orchard place. He helped the family, however he could, getting wood, building the home, reviving the orchards apple trees, and any other help needed. Later, he worked for the Forest Service, and at CCC camps.

Wyatt Green and Payton Buffington of Columbia Falls make their way through Chris Fritz's corn maze last Saturday afternoon north of Kalispell off Birch Grove Road. Fritz, who leases and farms his parents' land, said he first created a corn maze last year as a way to supplement his farm income and provide entertainment to area residents. The numerous, winding paths that Fritz cut through about three acres of corn, lead visitors on a treasure hunt. The maze will be open each weekend through Halloween; admission is $5 per person. The corn will later be fed to cattle.
