Kalispell police arrested five teenagers Tuesday for open container and possession of alcohol. One of them was also arrested for providing the alcohol. They were pulled over after another driver saw them driving down U.S. 93 throwing beer cans out the window and called police.
Armed robbery suspect still at large
Flathead County Sheriff's deputies are still looking for an armed robbery suspect in his late teens or early 20's who robbed or tried to rob three convenience stores last week. A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and providing alcohol to minors, while his 18- and 13-year-old passengers were nailed with possession of alcohol. Which, it turns out, was also a violation of the 13-year-old's probation.

Flathead County Sheriff's deputies were called to the McGregor Lake campgrounds late Friday night after a woman reported her boyfriend assaulted her and then stole her car. Kalispell police located the stolen vehicle at the Albertsons parking lot in Kalispell. The driver tried to speed away through downtown, but officers deployed stop sticks that blew three of his four tires. He was eventually pulled from his car and arrested in front of the Earl Bennett building. Police are still investigating.

Flathead County sheriff's deputies reported that a truck rolled on its side north of Woody's Country Store just before 1 a.m. Thursday on Montana 206. Whitefish police didn't believe the 24-year-old man when he wanted to report his vehicle as stolen, so they questioned him further. Whether it was conscience or evidence that won out, he confessed to being the one who left the scene of a property accident on Greenwood Drive. He was charged.

Kalispell police arrested six people early Saturday morning at a loud party at an apartment on First Avenue West. Flathead County sheriff's deputies discovered that what had been reported as a domestic dispute at a vehicle on U.S. 93 just south of Majestic Valley Arena Sunday evening was resolved by the man and woman by the time authorities arrived. The call had first come in to Kalispell police, who were told there was an altercation on the roadside, then the woman had gotten back in the car and drove off as the man stayed behind.

The Montana Highway Patrol was called when a 17-year-old girl riding a homemade go-cart along Auction Road ran into a barbed-wire fence and cut a gash in her throat Sunday afternoon. She was the only one riding at the time, but several others on the scene said she was going at a very low speed at the time of the accident. ALERT helicopter flew her for treatment at the Kalispell Regional Medical Center.

Kalispell police arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of felony criminal mischief after a Flathead High School custodian saw a man throw a rock through a window at the school. He got away after an initial chase, but eventually was found. Three windows were broken, valued at $600 each.

Whitefish police dealt with thefts in bulk Sunday night and Monday. The first came Sunday night at the Whitefish Mountain Mall, where somebody discovered his skateboard was missing. The group went looking for it and spotted it in the back of a Jeep parked at the Mountain Cinema. As events progressed, a woman who was in the theater caught wind that she and her friend were suspects, so she left the theater and moved the Jeep across the street in an attempt to hide it, police said. The ruse was foiled when the 20-year-old woman and 21-year-old man, both from Whitefish, were arrested on suspicion of theft.

Dog owner says pet was abused
Flathead County sheriff's detectives were called by a woman who had left her Evergreen home after an argument with the man there. She returned to pick up her dog, and found it injured. A veterinarian found evidence that the dog had been choked and that it had a broken pelvic bone. She lodged an animal-cruelty complaint.

Magdalene H. "Meg" Winkley, 95, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell. Meg was born May 30, 1911, in Bradford, Ohio, to Frank and Louise Mock Crowell. She was raised in Bradford, graduating from Bradford High School.

Flathead County sheriff's detectives are investigating possible child abuse, reported Tuesday afternoon at a Wishart Road home. Deputies returned to the same address later to serve a felony criminal endangerment warrant from 2006 on a 26-year-old man there. He is in jail.

The Flathead County Sheriff's Office said a 12-year-old boy on Stillwater Loop called them, crying and telling a story about his father hitting, kicking and choking him because he had not taken a shower on time. He added a detail that his father had broken his nose once before. Deputies discovered none of this had happened. Rather, they said, the boy had taken a swing at his father, who then redirected him to the shower.

Columbia Falls police suddenly took over from City Court officials Monday morning when a man appearing there on traffic offenses suddenly bolted out of the courtroom. Police chased him on foot, then - when he hopped into his vehicle - by car. They caught up to him at Sixth Street and Third Avenue West. He now faces a negligent endangerment charge, considerably more serious than his traffic counts.

Whitefish police are investigating a domestic disturbance at a home on Minnesota Avenue reported just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday. A man reportedly beat up his girlfriend, then ran off. She was gone, too, when police arrived, but they later found her. The man was not located.
